Sed Sensus Profundior is Latin for “but the deeper meaning”, pleading for the reader to look again and understand the history, tradition, culture, and context of Catholic doctrine and life.
Christ left us with order through the establishment of his Church. “And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.” -Matthew 16:18 (USCCB). Peter, who denied Jesus three times, was handpicked to lead Christ’s flock and lead Church as its first Pope.
In its 2,000 years of ecclesiastical history, the Church has gone through many rough periods, facing challenges from both outside and from within. The Church established by Jesus is holy and perfect, even when sometimes the ministers are not. Fr. Claude Burns says, “blaming religion for contradiction is like staring at death and blaming the hearse.”
The Church established by Christ and first led by St. Peter continues today as the largest charitable organization in the world. And with over 1.1 billion members, Christ’s Church continues the exact same message first shared by His 12 Apostles. Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, or All for the Greater Glory of God.
